An Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) senses when mains power is lost or the voltage is outside acceptable limits and automatically starts the generator to power your equipment.
When it senses that power has returned and is stable, it transfers the equipment back to mains power and shuts down the generator, so it is ready for the next time there is a power issue.
